Top-30 prospect Paul Scruggs has committed to Xavier.

Scruggs chose the Musketeers over Indiana, Michigan State and Connecticut. He visited all four schools in August, and also had Illinois in his final five.

"It's the school that fits my style of play," Scruggs told ESPN.

Scruggs, ranked No. 28 in the ESPN 100, will be the highest-ranked recruit to attend Xavier since the ESPN basketball recruiting database started in 2007. The only other top-50 prospects to play for the Musketeers since 2007 are Justin Martin (No. 46 in 2010), Dezmine Wells (No. 48 in 2011) and Trevon Bluiett (No. 46 in 2014). Semaj Christon would have been in 2012, but he did a post-grad year and was therefore ineligible for rankings.

A 6-foot-3 point guard from Indianapolis, Scruggs transferred to Prolific Prep (California) for his senior season. He creates matchup problems for opponents due to his size and strength, and averaged 14.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists for the Indy Hoosiers on the Under Armour Association circuit this past spring and summer.

Scruggs can play on or off the ball, and will provide insurance for head coach Chris Mack on the perimeter in case sophomore Edmond Sumner leaves early for the NBA. Xavier brought in ESPN 100 point guard Quentin Goodin in the 2016 class, giving Mack two high-level backcourt players for the 2017-18 season.

Xavier is aiming for its highest-ranked recruiting class since Mack took over in 2009. Scruggs joins a five-man group that includes ESPN 100 small forward Naji Marshall (No. 85), as well as four-star wings Jared Ridder and Elias Harden and three-star center Kentrevious Jones.
